The social-realist genre features several common conventions which I can easily apply to my film.
The common use of unknown actors will work as I know no well-known actors willing to act in my film. Also, social realist films deal with topics like drugs, crime, sex, poverty and social class, which my film can do.
The use of young main characters in social realist appeals to a younger audience, so, with my main actor being 18, I know the target audience of my type of social realist film too.
Social realist films often contain grey colours and very realistic lighting, which I can replicate.
The trailers often don't give much of the plot away and instead showcase the themes of the film, rarely using voiceovers or well-known music. They also often contain several long shots of landscapes.
