This is the picture I chose to work on.

I then wrote the title of the magazine and all the teasers I had planned onto the image using the text tool, changing the size of the writing as I went to appropriate sizes. For example, the title is the biggest so that is seen first and the audience knows what it's reading, followed by the main teaser giving an example of what is inside to go with the picture, then followed by the slogan, the puff and other smaller teasers.
I then changed the colours to the 3 colours I'd decided on: white, yellow and red. These are the colours of the college logo and so seemed appropriate to include on the magazine, but they also have connotations. Red is a colour that is associated with energy and power which fits in with the main sporting subject of the magazine. Yellow is a positive colour like red and connotes happiness (like sunshine) and intellect, which is very positive about the college. White is also associated with good things like cleanliness and purity, which connotes the same about the college. All 3 are also eye-catching and so will attract any potential audiences to read them.

I then edited the fonts to some of the text. The title was changed to "TrajanPro Regular"which is bold, making the title stand out and look important, helping to draw the attention of people looking at the magazine. The slogan was changed to "BrushScriptStd", a fancier font that connotes an element of class about the college and magazine which the text "Striving for excellence" also does.

I then added a stroke effect to all of the text, giving it a black border which makes it stand out and easy to read.

This is great. It is still rather formal - which I think is the tone the college aims for - but it looks engaging and is certainly eye catching. You have thought really carefully about the choice of image, font and copy and the result is a clear and effective cover. The subject matter is relevant and certainly would attract the students who like rugby. The teasers would be a great tool for engaging others. My one quibble would be the placing of the inserted image as it looks a little awkward stuck across the rugby posts!
