Results from the first few questions show that my audience is mostly teenage males, and that most of them didn't read music magazines, mainly because there wasn't or they weren't aware of any magazines dedicated to their chosen genre.

One thing that particularly shocked me about this, was that only 5 people could name Rewind magazine, a magazine for grime and dubstep music, which shows that they haven't been advertising very well. This is something that mostly won't affect me when making my magazine, but if I was actually trying to create a real one for the buying public then it's something I'd have to really take into consideration. I could possibly make it obvious on the front cover by mentioning it's a music about grime or dubstep music, although any artists featured could do this for me.

The feedback on the questions about the content of the magazine showed that the magazines they read mostly just promoted the artists, those that did give feedback appeared to go down well and they'd like those that didn't to do so too. They also appeared to want this writing to be somewhere in between informal and formal, with one person commenting they wanted it to be "friendly but with no embarrassing jokes" and another said they wanted it to be "informal but still professional."

Concerning the cover, it appears that the simple look is preferred to the busier ones. This perhaps shows a difference in the target audience of the magazines as RWD also has a simple look while NME was quite busy. Unfortunately there were no ideas as far as titles or slogans go so I'll have to create one myself. They did however give me an idea of what kind of artists to include: mostly big names from within the genre, which seem to sell the magazine simply by having them in it.

There are several other results that make minor differences to the magazine I create, but mostly they are important for if I was creating a real magazine to sell. For example, with the possibility of people wrtining to or sending in their own music and a decent prospective audience for a niche market, there's the potential to create a community around the magazine which people would want to become a part of and be featured in it. These could also possibly be featured in free CDs given away with the magazine as the CDs appeared to be the most popular choice, although one of the other questions showed that the free gifts didn't appear to be that important in selling the magazine, the content was.

  1. This is excellent! Your research has provided you with a wealth of information about your potential target audience which will really help with the production process. The pie charts although a basic tool are very effect in terms of showing your information clearly. I think your final construction will really benefit from all this work.
